Paris has the Eiffel Tower, Seattle has the Space Needle, and Brussels has the Atomium. This breathtaking landmark was constructed for Expo 58, also known as the 1958 Brussels World Fair.
The engineer André Waterkeyn designed what CNN once called the most bizarre building in Europe. In fact, Atomium is a replica of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times.
An elevator rushes you up to the top sphere where you can view the skyline of Brussels. To give you an idea on the size, take a look at these specs:
- Height: 335 feet
- Diameter of each sphere: 59 feet
I shot this video in the fall of 2014. It shows you what it looks like to ride to the top and look out over Brussels.
